Winter Farmers’ Markets

We’re lucky in Watertown to host our own wonderful Farmers’ Market each year from June through October. But our flow of fresh produce doesn’t have to stop once harvest time is over! Thanks to some amazing local farmers and specialty food providers, there are well-stocked Winter Farmers’ Markets in the area that are worth checking out. Here are some to look for in 2019:

Lucky for us, nearby Lexington Farmers’ Market hosts two amazing markets in the off-season. Their Thanksgiving FEASTival is a special one-day pre-holiday event, held this year on Tuesday November 20th from 12 – 4 PM at Lexington’s Seasons Four. Think sustainably-raised turkeys from Copicut Farms (preorders only); locally-grown vegetables and fruit from Busa Farmsand lots of hard-to-find specialty items to round out your Thanksgiving table. See their website for a full list of farmers and vendors coming this year. Ample parking available.

Lexington’s Small Yet Mighty Winter Market kicks off January 5th at the Lexington Waldorf School  from 11 AM to 2 PM, running every other Saturday through mid-April. Confirmed returning vendors include Hull’s C&C Lobsters and FishSignal Rock Farmbringing delicious lamb and gorgeous wool products; organic favorite The Herb FARMacy, featuring their beautiful microgreens and salad mixes; and Burlington favorite Del Sur Empanadas. Hosted at the Somerville Armory, the weekly Somerville Winter Farmers’ Market features locally grown and regionally produced agricultural fare, including produce, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, breads, chocolate, and wine! Their space also offers live music and two café areas to sit and relax between shopping runs – perfect for a frosty winter Saturday! Also held on Saturdays, the Cambridge Winter Farmers’ Market features a great mix of local produce, meat, fish, and dairy, (local coffee growers too!), as well as crafts from local artisans. Past vendors include Red’s Best and Boston Smoked Fish, Apex Orchards, Narragansett Creamery, and Valicenti Pasta Farm. About 30 minutes up the road you’ll find the Wayland Winter Farmers’ Market held on Saturdays from January through March at Russell’s Garden Center! Although a bit of a ways from Watertown, there’s a lot about this market that makes it worth the drive. First, it’s huge, and varied – with over 100 vendors selling everything from specialty food and drink to pastries, pizza, wine, and of course local produce. There are also lots of enrichment programs, like talks by local authors, workshops, and demonstrations. Check their website for a full list of 2019 vendors and programming.
