Best Places to Work Remotely

With almost 50% of Americans working outside the office these days, more and more of us are looking for places with fast WiFi to hunker down with our laptops and get stuff done. And if we can get a decent cup of coffee while we’re at it, even better. Here are some of our go-to locations around Watertown to work remotely – and maybe get a meal too - when we need a change of scenery:

Uncommon Grounds open 7 AM to 2 PM each day, Uncommon Grounds offers a sizeable breakfast and lunch menu, with lots of signature coffee drinks. We’re big fans of their outdoor seating in the warmer months. Great Wifi, and bonus points for lots of gluten free options too.

Spot Café at 385 Main Street opens every day except Monday, 7 AM to 3 PM. This cozy, funky space is great for settling in with one of their signature breakfast specials -- Sara’s Veggie Omelet and Natasha’s French Toast breakfast are our favorites right now. The staff is super friendly too! No website – call (617) 923-2339 for more info.

Newcomer Intelligentsia Coffee is the first Boston-area location for this Chicago-based chain. Known for its cultivated approach to the almighty bean, Intelligentsia takes its coffee very seriously. A must for any serious java drinker. Open 7 AM to 6 PM daily, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Halfway Café is open 12 PM – 1 AM most days, closing at midnight on Sundays. While we wouldn’t recommend trying to get much work done during the dinner hour – especially on Trivia Nights - they nonetheless do have great Wifi and comfortable surroundings, and you can certainly park yourself here for lunch and an afternoon work sesh.

If you need quiet more than you need food, head on over to the beautiful Watertown Free Public Library and get down to business. You can find a desk or cozy chair in any of their open spaces; you can also reserve one of their private study rooms online. Open Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 9 PM – head to their website for weekend hours and more info.
