Plays and Musicals Coming to Watertown

Fall in Watertown might be winding down, but the performing arts season is just getting started. While the chillier nights can make it tempting to cozy up with the remote, there are some great productions around town that are worth hopping in an Uber for! Here are ones coming up that are definitely worth checking out:

Man of La Mancha (December 1-24 2017, New Repertory Theatre): Always a fan favorite, this Tony Award winning musical adaptation of Don Quixote tells the poignant tale of the eponymous knight, his sidekick Sancho Panza, and his quest to dream the impossible dream. Starring Maurice Emmanuel Parent of Ragtime and Cabaret, Man of La Mancha is classic holiday fare that will surely pack the house. Head here for tickets.

An Enchanted Evening (January 21st, Mosesian Center for the Arts): Dance fans will want to check this one out! Join up-and-coming artists from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Belmont as they create a fairytale evening in the Enchanted Forest where new friends will be made, enemies defeated, and (hopefully) the kingdom ultimately saved from the bad guys. This production features both student and professional dancers  – a great opportunity to be entertained while supporting our next gen! Ticket info here

The Bakelite Masterpiece (March 17 – April 8th, New Rep Theatre): Set at the close of WWII, The Bakelite Masterpiece tells the story of jailed artist Han van Meegeren, who has been accused of selling a Vermeer painting to the Nazis. Fiercely defending his innocence, Meegeren must escape execution by somehow creating another masterpiece in front of his jailers. This compelling Boston area premiere is the latest production from playwright Kate Cayley. Head to the New Rep website for tickets.

Jagged Little Pill (May 5 – June 30th, American Repertory Theater): Featuring the smash hits “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic”, Jagged Little Pill was the debut album that launched Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette from obscurity to rock star status, winning her 5 Grammy awards. Directed by Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Waitress, Pippin) this world premiere musical based on Morissette’s breakout album will feature a book written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody.
