It's 5:00 Somewhere

The idea of a Happy Hour may have started with the US Navy, but it sure has changed a lot since then (starting with the fact that it’s no longer an hour). Although a 1984 state-wide ban still prevents Massachusetts restaurants from serving hours-specific booze deals, there are food specials all around town (and always great drinks!). Here are some places to hit up in Watertown and beyond for some deals on after-work nibbles:

  • Main Street’s Not Your Average Joe’s hosts Happy Hour weekdays 3-6 PM with a tasty selection of bar bites, including Ahi Tuna Wontons, Nacho Average Nachos, and Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps. All food selections are under 7 bucks – and their bar menu is fantastic!
  • Craving a water view? Sneak down Storrow Drive to Cambridge’s Dante Restaurant inside the Royal Sonesta Hotel. They’ve got $2 shrimp cocktail, bruschetta, oysters, and arancini on their Happy Hour menu from 2:30-6 PM daily.
  • Harvard Square staple Grendel’s Den offers virtually the entire food menu at 50% off every day from 5-7 PM. Not too shabby!
  • Ever heard of a Ramen Happy Hour? Then you’ve clearly never been to Watertown’s  StripTs Restaurant at 93 School Street. Their version of this Japanese classic is delectable – slightly smoky broth, noodles cooked perfectly, with daily variations of delicious meats and veggies. You don’t want to miss this – daily 11 AM – 5 PM.
