Packing the Perfect Picnic

August is upon us, but don’t fret, there is still plenty of time to enjoy all that summertime in Watertown has to offer! One of our favorite summertime activities is to gather some goodies from local hotspots and eateries, head to a park or the beach, and enjoy a picnic with friends.

Check out what’s in our picnic baskets:

First, we like to start with some meats and charcuterie from Russo’s. Russo’s is also a great option for prepared foods that are easy to grab and take with you. Their rotisserie chicken is a crowd pleaser and is delicious either hot or cold.

Watertown is full of great places to grab a quick sub, sandwich, or salad to go. The Meat Spot is a family owned butchery that offers a take-out menu full of fresh deli items and salads. The Prosciutto Lovers, with parma prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil, is a great summertime option.

No picnic would be complete without a little something sweet and crunchy to eat. Swing on over to Fastachi for a wide variety of roasted, raw, and mixed nuts. Their nut brittles are to die for – we go nuts (ha!) over the cashew crunch, a homemade cashew brittle drizzled in molasses and honey. Make sure to buy extra for all of your picnic pals!

In preparation for a weekend picnic, we always like to stop by the Watertown Farmer’s Market on Thursday afternoons for fresh produce, baked goods, and other fun items. This year, the farmer’s market has welcomed a few new vendors including Freitas Farm, Spring Brook Farm, and Halvah Heaven. Read more about this year’s market here.

We hope your picnic is just perfect – let us know where you like to get your goodies before heading out for a lazy summer day!
