Where to Escape Indoors this Summer

Ahh, summer – that magical time when Watertown peeps take to their collective patios, porches, and restaurant roof decks for outdoor fun and warm-weather dining. But this being New England, we know things are not all sunshine and rainbows. What about those rainy days, or those humid times when you need to chill in the A/C? Luckily Watertown is full of great places to keep you entertained when indoors is the place to be. Here are 7 great ways to escape inside this summer:

  1. Not into baking in the Fenway sun? Watch your beloved Red Sox on the big screen in the air-conditioned comfort of Miller’s Ale House! Their 75+ varieties of local and seasonal craft beers aren’t too shabby, either.

  2. Cool off at Watertown’s newest addition to the brewing scene, Intelligentsia Coffee on Mount Auburn Street. They’ve got lots of warm-weather options to try inside their brand-new café space, including their Organic Ginger Plum Iced Tea and signature matcha.

  3. If you’ve full up on gardening and home projects, get your hands dirty indoors for a change - at the Arsenal yards HATCH Makerspace! Try out everything from 3-D printers to robotics, in an atmosphere that’s great for newbies or tech wizards. Please note that HATCH will be at the Arsenal Yards location until July 16th, when it will move to a temporary location in Watertown Square. Check in with the WFPL website for updates on the move.

  4. Sing for your supper without breaking a sweat at Donahue’s Bar and Grill karaoke night, or Live Music Fridays at Raider Tavern, and treat yourself to some awesome pub grub while you’re at it.

  5. Researching a job change, or a new hobby? Take on online course with Watertown Free Public Library! Their digital platform now offers over 5,000 online courses covering a wide variety of business, technological, and creative skills. Details and sign-ups on their website.

  6. Expand your musical horizons, and catch the amazing new operatic production Elixir of Love at Mosesian Center for The Arts! Details and ticket info here.

  7. Want to bar hop in style? Take an air-conditioned ride around to some of the best craft beer producers in Boston, with the experts at City Brew Tours. They offer a full range of tour options, whether you’re into making just a few stops, or want to make a day of it. Details and package info here
