Summer Sailing

Nothing says summer in Boston more than the return of sailboats to the Charles River. We love to grab a cup of coffee and wander along the banks, watching the boaters, kayakers, and paddle boarders enjoying their time on the water. This summer, why not try your hand at sailing and become a participant rather than a spectator?

Founded back in 1946, Community Boating Inc. offers boating and water sport options to people of all ages and abilities. They host a variety of adult sailing classes for both beginners and more experienced sailors, along with kayaking, stand-up paddling boarding, and windsurfing lessons. Not ready to commit to lessons? Community Boating offers a range of rental options, like kayaks for only $40 a day.

The Boston Sailing Center is a sailing school and club housed in a Louisiana Riverboat at Boston Harbor’s Lewis Wharf. Their instructional program services over four hundred adults every year-  but they manage to keep class size nice and small. BSC conducts a Learn to Sail course, an Advanced course, as well as a Cruising course for those looking to captain a full-size cruising boat. Those looking for a bit more excitement may want to register for one of their Racing courses, appropriate for all levels.

The Boston Harbor Sailing Club is located on Rowes Wharf near the Boston Harbor Hotel. Their Daysailing course is perfect for those with little to no sailing experience. The course provides 24 total hours of instruction including boat handling, navigation, and thirty-five days of free sailing. Other courses include Basic Navigation, Night Sailing, and Advanced Sailing. Boat rentals and charters are also available when not being used by club members.

Courageous Sailing at Pier 4 in the Charlestown Navy Yard provides comprehensive sailing courses for kids as well as adults. Instructors are US Sailing certified and classes are kept small with a 3:1 ratio. Similar to the other clubs, Courageous Sailing offers beginner and more advanced courses, ranging between 12 and 24 hours.

We hope to see you out on the water this summer!
