Local Ice Skating Rinks

Ice skating is a great winter activity to engage in when the snow has melted on your favorite sledding hill. The perfect combination of aerobic exercise and fun, tearing around the ice makes you feel like a kid again. Below are some of the best nearby skating rinks -- and they’re all indoors, so you can strap on those blades any time of year!

Watertown’s own John A. Ryan Arena has been a favorite of locals since 1972. The JAR is home to several area youth hockey teams as well as the Bentley University hockey program. Public skating is super affordable here, and they offer skate rentals; but be sure to check the schedule as times may vary week to week.

The Daly Rink in Newton was originally built in 1966 as an outdoor rink and was later enclosed in 2010. Daly offers a whopping fifteen hours of public skate every week, plus skate rentals for only $6. For the avid skaters, Daly Rink sells a season skate pass - only $110 for individuals and $160 for families!

Somerville’s Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink is your typical New England hockey facility with an old school vibe. Public skating is held several times both weekdays and weekends and, better yet, it’s free!

The Waltham Recreation Department operates their own Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink (same name, different place!). Public skating is available every day of the week except Monday at only $4 for adults. They also have several options for public hockey through the week. Skate rentals are available but limited, so plan ahead!
