Where to Score Your Holiday Libations

The holiday season is upon us, which means that you’re probably either getting ready to host a party or attend one - or two, or three, or four! Of course, no party is complete without a varied supply of wine, beer, and spirits for your guests and no guest should show up empty handed. Stop into one of these local Watertown businesses to stock your bar or grab a couple bottles to bring to each of the parties that you’ll be gracing with your presence.

Gordon’s Fine Wine and Liquors is at 51 Watertown Street and has four additional locations in the Boston area. Gordon’s has been in business since 1934 and carries a wide variety of wines, spirits, and craft beers. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the products that they carry; whiskey and scotch are among their specialties. They also offer some pretty amazing gift baskets, a beverage catering service, and local delivery.

The Magnolia Wine Company is another Watertown favorite, located at 130 Belmont Street. They offer a selection of domestic craft beers and traditional imports with an affinity for Belgian brews, and stock a variety of well-known liquors as well as some more obscure varieties. Owner Jay Faber handpicks and taste tests most of the wine before it hits the shelves. Be sure to stop in on Fridays from 5-7pm for beer tastings and on Saturdays from 3-5pm for wine tastings.

Vahey’s Liquors and Metro Mini Mart is your one stop shop for beers, wines, and spirits as well as cigars. Vahey’s carries wines from all over the world, a plethora of fine spirits including vodka, whiskey, and cognac, and a great selection of domestic and imported beers. Plus, while there you can grab some sodas for mixing and a couple of late night snacks in the mini mart.

Arsenal Wine and Spirits, run by a husband and wife team, is situated at 111 Arsenal Street. They inhabit what used to be a convenience store and carry fine wine, a large selection of spirits, and craft beer. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to make suggestions; wine and Scotch whiskeys are favorites of the owners.

Don’t forget that the Watertown area is also home to a pretty awesome craft beer scene. Cambridge Brewing Company and Craft Beer Cellar are just two local breweries that you might want to stop at to grab a case or a six-pack en route to.
