Where to Cool Down in Watertown

August is the month when most of us start clinging to every last shred of summer – that said, the heat and humidity can start to get old right about now. If the A/C’s not cutting it and you’re craving a refreshing dip somewhere close by, here are some spots around town where you can cool down fast:

• The Mount Auburn Club on Coolidge Avenue has a 7-lane indoor pool that’s clean and serene. Drenched in natural light at daytime and beautifully lit at night, it’s a super chill spot to relax and escape the summer dog days. Great hours, too – they’re open 5:30 AM Monday through Friday, till 10 PM Monday through Thursday and 8 PM Fri-Sat-Sunday. Although it’s a private club, you can sign up for a free 7-day pass on their website.

• Want some pool time for free? The City of Watertown’s Dealtry Pool has no admission fee and is open to the public, with showers and changing rooms available. The hours are straightforward, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM – great for sneaking in a swim on your lunch hour, or anytime if you’re flex timing it this summer.

• If swimming’s not your thing, ditch your shoes and jump into the sprinklers at Filippello Park! They’re located right between the two soccer fields – the sprinkler heads have motion sensors and start working when you stand in front of them. You might be the oldest one there, but come on – did that stop Tom Hanks?

• If you’d rather get out on the open water, head to East Arlington’s best-kept secret, Spy Pond. You can’t swim there, but they have kayak, canoe, and paddle board rentals to get you off shore and cooling off fast! They’re all rented on a first-come, first-serve basis, so get there early – last boats go out at 5 PM.
