East End Eats: Where to Dine Outdoors

With the days trending warmer and longer, it’ll be no time at all before restaurant hosts answer your table request with “inside or out?” Whether it’s a margarita or a latte you’re after, there are plenty of amazing spots in and around Watertown that offer al fresco dining. Here are some of our favorites:

  • In the heart of Watertown Square, the Diner at 11 North Beacon serves up home-cooked casual breakfast and lunch fare, 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM seven days a week, with a patio out back.

  • Uncommon Grounds at 575 Mount Auburn Street serves up some of the best coffee in Watertown, along with yummy breakfast and lunch fare. Grab a spot out front and watch the world go by.

  • Watertown’s urban rotisserie Branch Line at Arsenal On The Charles is becoming quickly known for its killer draft selection and innovative spin on comfort food (ranch dressing will never be the same). They’ve built out ample space for patio seating, and even have a bocce court!

  • If Latin fare is more your thing, head around the corner to Arsenal On The Charles’ La Casa de Pedro, well-known in Watertown for its amazing Venezuelan and Spanish cuisine. The cocktail menu alone will have you dreaming of their cozy patio, with an unparalleled rum list, tequila selection – and did we mention the nine kinds of Mojitos?

  • Just down the road in Harvard Square sits Charlie’s Kitchen at 10 Elliot Street. Their outdoor beer garden is open year-round, with full bar and dinner menu, its own beer stand, and 18 different draft beer selections. They feature live music on Monday nights, and stay open till 2 AM Thursdays through Saturdays.

  • For a bit of a splurge (or if Mom or Dad’s paying), head up the Charles River to Cambridge’s Restaurant Dante, located in the first floor of the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Dante specializes in upscale Italian fare, with housemade pastas, grilled meats and fish, and an extensive cocktail and wine program. Its spacious outdoor seating offers spectacular views of the Charles River and Boston skyline. Dinner only.
